Meal Review Monday #4: Peanut Butter and Greek Yogurt Fruit Dip

Welcome to Meal Review Monday, where I review Pinterest recipe finds.

The first three Meal Review Mondays have featured some not-so-healthy recipes. While I love a good splurge recipe as much as more than the next person, I also love finding healthy foods that also taste good, which is why this week I'm reviewing a healthy fruit dip recipe.

Before we go any further, here's something you should know about me: I really hate it when someone gives me something healthy to eat and swears it tastes like its deliciously unhealthy counterpart--it's almost never true! I don't know how many countless protein drinks I have been given that "taste just like a milkshake!", only to try them and taste that unmistakable protein powder flavor. It may be a good protein drink, but if you think it tastes like a milkshake you need to hightail it to your local Braums and order a real milkshake, because it's obviously been far too long since you've had one. And don't even get me started on things with weird sugar substitutes, or banana ice cream, or cauliflower mashed potatoes, or any of that nonsense that "tastes just like the real thing". It doesn't. It may be tasty, but let's agree to let it stand on its own two feet instead of trying to convince ourselves it tastes like something else, because we'll never be satisfied with it any other way.

With that being said, if I tell you a healthy recipe is good, you can rest assured that it is. I will always tell you if it actually tastes good, or is just a decent alternative. You know I love my healthy Oatmeal Almond Banana Pancakes, but I am the first to admit they do not taste just like a good ol' white-flour pancake.

Okay, so now that we've established that, let me tell you about this Peanut Butter and Greek Yogurt Fruit Dip.

This stuff is good. Like, the real deal good. I don't know how or why, but you take plain Greek yogurt and mix it with plain old peanut butter, and you get this amazing fluffy goodness. I love to eat it on a banana, but I've also been known to just eat it with a spoon! Talk about protein--and for a semi-vegetarian like myself, getting enough protein is always a challenge.

I've seen various versions of this floating around that say to add some honey and cinnamon, which do make it tasty. Personally, I just use the yogurt and peanut butter because it's easy. I always use natural peanut butter, since that's what we keep on hand, and I was afraid that it wouldn't taste sweet enough, but it was perfect.

You can mix it up in about a minute, and make enough just for yourself or enough for a party. Although my daughter isn't old enough to eat nuts yet, I think kids would love it, too! If you are a fan of peanut butter, give it a try!

Final rating: 4 out of 5 stars

Have you tried this recipe? If so, what did you think? Do you agree with my rating?

  3. braums milkshakes > protein drink! Hands down Braum's wins every time. I feel the same way about the cauliflower, fake sugar and seriously, banana ice cream? barf! Braums! Just go to Braums people.

This dip sounds good and a healthy alternative. I don't always have yogurt on hand but I do know when I have it part of it goes bad. So, I might just have to whip this up!

    1. Haha I'm glad you agree with me! Of course I'm not advocating eating that stuff every day, but I just can't pretend that the alternatives are as good!
I used to have the same problem with letting yogurt go bad, but we have started using Greek yogurt in a lot of recipes, and I can eat this fruit dip every day!
